Fish Fight

I had the Fish Fight campaign flagged to me today.  Comprising Zac Goldsmith's Early Day Motion, and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's petition.

I wrote to my MP requesting she sign the EDM.  In brief, this is a request for a debate about the problems with mechanisms of existing fishing quotas.

Current policy means that any netted fish that cannot be legally landed and sold are thrown back to sea.  As many as 50%.  Dead or dying.

I'm trying to work out if the quota concept as a means of sustaining fish stocks is actually a true catch-22.

But ignoring that digression, dead and dying fish do not sustain a population and cannot support conservation.  This is an issue with a global relevance, even if you don't yet feel it's reach.

I'd urge you to look briefly or in depth at www.fishfight.net and see if this is an issue that you feel matters enough to write about.
